To Create An Intentional Business, Build a Business Guild

Redtail Creative managing partner, Molly McKinley, will present a Lunch & Learn on June 13, 2023 at the WomanUp Conference in San Diego! In this session, she will break down the importance of creating a Business Guild as inspired by the wisdom of permaculture gardening, covered in detail in her first book, The Intentional Business: A Path to Purpose & Prosperity.

The idea is simple. We each have a unique role to play. We have something that we do better than others. When we combine with others that do the things they are better than others at doing, we are stronger and bear more fruit.
— Molly McKinley

A business guild is also called a community of practice.

There are seven key tasks or members that should be explored to ensure we are creating holistically and considering a number of possible factors while we build. The seven “jobs” in permaculture that can also guide our businesses are:

1. Attractors: Attract beneficial partners

2. Deterrents: Deter wildlife

3. Fertilizers: Fertilize and enrich the soil

4. Mulchers: Mulch the earth and preserve energy

5. Pollinators: Produce nectar to pollinate

6. Repellents: Repel pests

7. Suppressors: Suppress weeds and grass

USE THIS WORKSHEET TO IDENTIFY THE PEOPLE IN YOUR BUSINESS AND THEIR ROLES IN YOUR GUILD. WHO ARE YOU MISSING IN YOUR BUSINESS? WHERE IS THERE OVERLAP? HOW AND WHERE CAN YOUR COMMUNITY WORK BETTER TOGETHER?
